Guide

How to Measure

Measure over a practice saree or fitted blouse, standing relaxed. Keep the tape snug, never tight, and have someone else read the numbers.

Upper body

Full bust at the widest point, upper bust above the bust line, under bust, shoulder seam to seam, and blouse length from shoulder to waist.

Sleeves

Arm hole around the shoulder joint, sleeve length to the desired point, and bicep at the fullest part with the arm relaxed.

Lower body

Waist at the natural waist, hip at the fullest point, and pyjama length from waist to just above the ankle bone.

Araimandi check

Sit in araimandi and re-measure the hip — the costume must allow full movement without pulling at the seams.

Measurement Guide

How to measure at home

Use a soft tape over a fitted dance blouse and note every value in inches.

  • Height

Stand barefoot against a wall and measure from the top of the head down to the floor.

Tip · Keep heels together and look straight ahead.

  • Shoulder

Measure across the upper back from the tip of one shoulder bone to the other.

Tip · Relax the arms — do not pull the tape tight.

  • Chest

Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape level under the arms.

Tip · Breathe normally while measuring.

  • Waist

Measure around the natural waistline — the narrowest part, just above the navel.

Tip · Add one finger's ease for comfort while dancing.

  • Hip

Measure around the fullest part of the hips, about 8 inches below the waist.

Tip · Feet together for an accurate reading.

  • Blouse Length

Measure from the shoulder seam down to where the blouse should end.

Tip · Wear your usual dance blouse as a reference.

  • Sleeve Length

Measure from the shoulder tip along a slightly bent arm to the desired sleeve end.

Tip · Elbow-length sleeves are most popular for stage.

  • Skirt Length

Measure from the waistline down to the ankle bone for a full-length skirt.

Tip · Measure while barefoot for stage-correct length.

  • Pant Length

Measure from the waistline down the outer leg to just above the ankle.

Tip · Pyjama costumes sit slightly above the ankle.
